More on using Audio in Google Slides

Here is a couple of tips when inserting audio and video into Google Slides.

When you insert audio a format menu will appear. This is the default look. If you leave it like this, your audio will play only on that page.

If you deselect the Stop on slide change, your audio will play across all the slides in your slide show.

This is really useful if you are inserting audio from the Ready to Read books, Journals or the Ready to Read Phonics books as you can play the story right through your slides.

It is also useful if you have used Online Voice Recorder to record your own voice reading a story.

Inserting audio straight onto Google Slides

I have come across a great little extension where you can record straight onto a Google Slide! It is called Mote

You can search for it in the Chrome web store. It does involve a few steps to install it (allowing microphone and access to Google Docs etc). Once you have installed it, refresh the page you are on and the Mote symbol should appear next to your Present button, it will appear up in your extensions as well but you want to use the one by your Present button as it is a one click to record, stop and then the speaker icon will appear on the page.
You can also use it in the comments. I could see teachers using this as a way to mark students' work. It is also a great tool for students to record themselves talking about their work.
I have also used it to record myself speaking Te Reo as a model for children to practise their punctuation.
You can even use it in Google Classroom to record your instructions.
You can ask your Google Admin person to push it out over all students' chrome books.

A tip for teachers with ESOL students

A follow on from my previous post about online recorder and recording audio is how teachers could use this with ESOL students.
I was working with a teacher who had a new student who speaks Arabic and very little English and she wants him to learn the high frequency words.
I suggested that she open Online Recorder and Google Translate at the same time.
Type in the word 'look' and choose Arabic for the translation.

Then go to Online Recorder and press the red start button

Go back to Google Translate and click on the translation recording speaker icon a couple of times. Go back to Online Recorder and stop the recording. Trim the ends so that there is no 'dead space'. Click on Save and then upload to Google Drive. Right click on the sound file and rename and then right click again on Get Shareable link to change the file to Anyone with the link

Go to your Google Slide and click on Insert - Audio, double click on file and place on the Google Slide.
